ROBOTICS
The tech behind our intelligent cleaning solutions.
RJ Maclean's robotics represent a monumental shift in how tanks are cleaned, and it all comes down to safety and efficiency. We aim to achieve these goals in every project we take on. The robotics we utilize help us get there.
WHY ROBOTICS?
The benefits of a technology-driven approach.
Demonstrably, our robotics minimize the exposure of personnel to confined spaces and harmful elements and atmospheres. They also enable us to reduce our headcount on site. The health and safety benefits gained through the use of automated and unmanned machines are immeasurable, both for your employees and ours.
There are financial benefits as well gained through the use of robotics. These tools reduce project duration and intensity, enabling us to clean more efficiently and complete projects at a fraction of the price charged by competitors.
Through the use of our fully integrated, highly specialized suite of equipment, we reduce project uncertainty and deliver predictable outcomes. Read on to learn about the robotics we’ve developed and what they do to keep projects on time and on budget.

ROV
A remotely operated vehicle we deploy into the dirtiest and most dangerous tanks.
Mover
A manned unit that efficiently moves massive amounts of product.
3D and Automated Nozzles
Specialized add-ons that help extend the capabilities of our cleaning tools.
SandPiper Circulation System
A versatile circulation & degassing system designed to slurry the toughest sludge deposits.
Cold Tap
A unique device that creates an entry point into a tank where one did not previously exist — all while keeping the contents inside contained.
Osprey System
An innovative roof-mounted unit designed to disrupt product inside the tank and push it toward a suction point.
Degassing
A robotics-driven process that utilizes chemistry to neutralize harmful tank chemicals.
Liquid Phase:
- VOC scavenging in contained products neutralizes hazardous components in sludge (LEL/VOC, H2S)
- Liquid injection Gas Encapsulation techniques reduce LELs prior to first break, while tank remains sealed.
- Atmosphere in tank can be monitored during these processes
Vapor Phase Degassing
Just like degassing, but employing nitrogen or a steam/chemical blend to neutralize the tank's atmosphere.
- Nitrogen blanketing and purging
- Steam and chemical blend vapor degassing
- Thermal oxidation
